Students may earn a
certificate of graduation recognized by the
National Association of Independent
Democratic Schools by attaining the age of
16, completing 2 years at HTFS and
completing the following two graduation
requirements:
1) Portfolio
Students complete a portfolio at
the end of their senior year containing
evidence that they are prepared for their
next steps as adults in society.
2) Personal Mission Statement
This is one page summary about who
the student is and what the student
represents. The student reads this at
graduation.
Additional Components
Many students will find that to be
prepared for their next step in life they
will need to take on work outside of the
traditional school environment. Some of this
work includes internships and workplace
experience, group travel, community service,
and independent projects that embody their
mission statement.
Graduation Committee
The graduate presents his or her
work before a committee comprised of
teachers, community mentors, and fellow
students. The committee determines whether
Harriet Tubman Free School will award the
student a certificate of graduation.
Note
These HTFS graduation requirements
may be altered based on school consensus.
